Bladder fistula as the name suggest is the name given to the
connection between the bladder and any other organ of the body.
Normally the other organ of the to which the bladder is
connected is the bowel (enterovesical fistula) or the vagina (vesicovaginal
fistula). Normally the most common reasons for bladder fistula
is crohns disease which is an inflammatory bowel disease. Bowel
fistula is rare and in 20 percent of the cases it is caused by
bowel cancer.
Some of the Common Symptoms of
Bladder Fistula are
1.Urinary leakage
2.Urinary tract infection
3.Passage of gas from urethra during urination
Diagnosis of bladder fistula is not possible simply by looking
at the symptoms. The doctor can hence ask for the following test
to be undertaken in order to effectively diagnose bladder
fistula.
1. CT scan
2. crystogrm
3. excretory urogram
4.radation therapy
How is Bladder Fistula Treated ?
Treatment of bladder fistula usually requires partial surgical
removal. If it is caused by a disease such as colon cancer or
inflammatory disease, surgical removal is usually done along
with removal of the primary disease. If this is not done the
bladder fistula tends to grow back again at the same place where
it has previously occurred. |
