It’s a medical condition in which there is a small cut or incision on the skin lining the anus. Its quite a painful condition and is supplemented by bleeding at regular intervals of time.

Some of the Common Symptoms of Anal Fissure are
1. Extreme pain during every time they go for defication
2. Red blood streaking out along with the stool

Causes
A hard and dry bowel movement might lead to a tear in the anal lining which results in a fissure. It can also be caused by other reasons which include diarrhea and inflammation of the anorectal area. However in most cases anal fissures is caused due to altered bowel habits. They can also be caused by overtly tight sphincter muscles ,scarring or some underlying medical problem

How can a Fissure be Treated ?
In majority of the cases they heal without surgery using non surgical procedures. A fibrous diet goes a long way in improving bowel movement. There are also stool softeners that help in promoting relaxation of anal muscles. Plenty of fluids and a warm bath everyday goes a long way in fissure treatment prevention.

However chronic fissures which last for more than one month might also require additional treatment because there is also the possibility of inflammatory bowel disease or other sorts of infections which might require further testing as recommended.

A chronic fissure (lasting greater than one month) may require additional treatment depending on the appearance of the fissure, other medical problems such as inflammatory bowel disease or infections may be considered and testing may be recommended. A manometry test may be performed to determine if anal sphincter pressures are high. An examination under anesthesia may be recommended to determine if a definite reason exists for lack of healing.

Sometimes surgery becomes the last feasible option. Surgery normally involves a small operation to cut a portion of the internal anal sphincter muscle. It accelerates the healing process by decreasing the pain and spasm. Surgery is simple and can be performed without an overnight hospital stay.
